Description

This is the second political comic I've made for UEA's paper "Concrete."

Again, written by Sean Henry and drawn by me.

If you don't know anything about the Tunisia riots, then here is a quick overview: Tunisia is the northernmost country of Africa, under the authoritarian regime of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Last month, a man set himself on fire to protest job shortages and low wages. From that, riots began to spread throughout Tunisia, the military has been responding to the riots with open fire, and Ben Ali has fled. Tunisia is now under a state of emergency and the Prime Minister, Mohammed Ghannouchi, has implemented a "temporary government."

What this comic is saying is basically that English students are protesting the raise in tuition fees, but that peaceful demonstrations are better than radical, violent protests, like setting oneself on fire, having the military open-fire on violent crowds, etc.

I don't follow politics very closely at all and I don't have many political standings, so sometimes I feel uncomfortable about drawing political comics when I don't have a standing on the subject. Sean scaled down his idea by changing it from a person on fire to a person just holding a can of gasoline and a lighter so that I didn't have to draw something so...incendiary.

What about you? Do you follow politics? How do you feel about the Tunisia riots?
